Abstract

The correspondence documents Waldo Schmitt's work during the Smithsonian-Bredin Caribbean Expedition, 1958. Letters to Bredin and Alvina Schmitt give descriptions of expedition progress. Letters to Bredin include arrangements of vessel to be used in expedition; identification of specimens; personal details about family; expedition logistics; bats, insect, reptile, amphibian, fish, and shell specimens and descriptions of surrounding environments; and expenses. Locations in the Caribbean includes the islands Antigua, Barbuda, Saint Thomas, and Tortola. There is official correspondence in Dutch. Includes correspondence of J. Bruce Bredin, Fenner A. Chace, Jr., C. John Finlay, Desmond V. Nicholson, Alvina S. Schmitt (Mrs. Waldo LaSalle), and Carl N. Shuster, Jr.
