Abstract

The black and white photographs document Waldo Schmitt's work during the Smithsonian-Bredin Society Islands Expedition, 1957. Some photographs have captions or numbers on the reverse side. Subject matter includes portraits of Dr. Rogues, candid images of participants, Waldo Schmitt preparing fish specimens, ship crew members, rocky coastline, examples of hillside vegetation, local inhabitants and their families in port, and ruins(?). Locations in French Polynesia Society Islands [Îles de la Société] include Makatea, Tahiti, and Tikahau Atoll.
