Abstract

This record refers to 3 field books created for the Pacific Ocean Biological Survey Program Southern Island Cruise 14, in 1966. Envelope 1 contains a field book by David Pearson from his work on Howland Island. The field book includes bird banding and returns data (listing band numbers 773-21188 to 953-02500); and nest counts. Envelope 2 contains a field book by Ralph W. Schreiber from work conducted on Howland Island. The field book includes bird banding data (listing band numbers 737-39672 to 953-15000); nest counts; observations of Blue-faced booby nest changeover rituals; observations of Booby feeding habits; general notes about the island; a hand-drawn map of island survey conducted by Schreiber and L. N. Huber; and a hand-drawn map of Sooty tern nesting sites. Envelope 3 contains a field book by Walter Bulmer that includes brief observations of Lesser frigatebirds chasing Blue-faced boobies on Baker Island.
