Abstract

The photographs document the work of Waldo Schmitt during the Smithsonian-Bredin Caribbean Expedition, 1956. Images have captions on the reverse side; some are typed and include date, location and names of individuals. The subject matter includes candid images of expedition participants in the field; seine nets drying along shoreline; fishing with seines; commercial fishing vessels in the area; local sights; aboard ship; in port; local staff; collecting botanical specimens; examples of cacti; candid images of photographing specimens aboard ship. Locations in the Caribbean include the vicinity of islands, Redonda, Saint Pierre, Pidgeon Island in the Grenadines, and Grenada.
