Abstract

The color photographs document work of Smithsonian-Bredin Belgian Congo Expedition, 1955, led by Waldo Schmitt. Short captions are recorded on the reverse side. Subject matter includes local fishing methods in Congo, Ubangi in Bunia, native houses, elephants in Gungala-na-Bodio, examples of terrain, national parks, oil factory, sunset on the Nile, and local markets. Locations in Africa include Ishango; Stanleyville [Kisangani], Bunia,Gungala-na-Bodio in Democratic Republic of Congo; and Khartoum in Sudan.
