This item contains a notebook with cruise data (possibly purchased in Argentina) and unbound, detailed log sheets from Vema cruise 22 from January 11 to June 12, 1966. Summary of route: The cruise begins at 39° 03'n, 71° 29'w, off the coast of New Jersey. They continue south along the coast of South America into the South Atlantic Ocean, then east across the Atlantic to off the shore of the southern tip of Africa. They then sail back west and north a few hundred miles off land along the west coast of Africa. They then sail north and and further west until they return to their starting location off the coast of New Jersey at 39° 51'n, 71° 35.5'w. The notebook contains the following data: time in, time out, one measurement in meters (perhaps depth), and one measurement in degrees (perhaps temperature). Detailed log sheets record the following information: cruise number, station number, date, type, 1M net in, out, 1M meter reading, 1/2M net in, out, 1/2M meter reading, coordinates, median local time, 1M length tow, 1/2M length tow, wire angle at depth, corrected depth, corrected depth, 1M displ. vol., 1/2M displ. vol., corrected displ. vol., vol. H20 filt. 1M, vol. H20 filt. 1/2M, comments (whether or not the haul was successful), net clogged, net tears, No. bottles used, surface temp., and observer.
