Abstract

The notes for the film shot document work completed by the Smithsonian-Bredin Belgian Congo Expedition, 1955, led by Waldo Schmitt. Film described includes slides and motion picture film reels. Consists of two notebooks and loose sheets of paper. Lists include location, date, and description. Some notes include information about specifications of equipment used, shutter speed, etc. Some lists are ordered by type of film, others are chronological. Subject matter includes local industries, agriculture, native artists and dancers, crustacean gathering, wildlife, and terrain. Location information includes town as well as type of business or place in town. Locations include the vicinity of Sudan (the Nile) and Democratic Republic of Congo (Wagenia, Stanleyville [Kisangani], and Leopoldville [Kinshasa].
