Abstract

The 11 maps document work completed by the Smithsonian-Bredin Belgian Congo Expedition, 1955, led by Waldo Schmitt. Maps cover Africa as well as the Democratic Republic of Congo specifically. Includes maps in French and English. Some maps have marked locations. There are significant markings in green on one map, possibly indicating the provinces visited in Congo. The topographical map has locations marked that indicates locations possibly visited by other expeditions in 1938 and 1948 (includes reference locations handwritten on the map). Among other places marked were Stanleyville [Kisangani] and Leopoldville [Kinshasa].
