Abstract

Charles D. Walcott records notes about sites observed across Inyo County, California from 1894 to 1897, while in the employ of the U.S. Geological Survey. Each set of notes are several handwritten pages, generally separated into acid free envelopes. Notes include descriptions of sections, sketches, latitude and longitude positions, and fossils found. Types of sites observed included mountain ranges, river beds, and recent faults. Locations include the vicinity of Waucoba Mountain, Owens Valley, Big Pine, and Waucoba Canyon. Includes letter, James Perrin Smith to Charles D. Walcott, February 25, 1897 discussing Triassic Fossils that Walcott had collected near Lone Pine, in Inyo County, California.
