Abstract

The notes document Waldo Scmitt's work during the United States Navy Galapagos Expedition, 1941. Materials include 1 bound notebook, 1 black and white photograph, and loose notes. Some notes are dated and follow a journal style structure. Bound notebook is mostly filled with short notes that appear to have been copied into another volume. Notes include lists of supplies, discussion of daily activities, meals, types and quantities of fish specimens collected (referred to by common name). Loose notes include observations of tides, daily activities, interactions with participants and local inhabitants, destinations and their terrain; collecting palm seeds from Coco Island [Isla de Coco]; observations prevalence of insects in the area; expenses; and data about samples taken. Locations include the vicinity of the Galapagos Islands[Archipiélago de Colón], islands of Melpalo, Coco, and Indefatiable [Santa Cruz].
