Abstract

The correspondence is from Waldo Schmitt's participation in the United States Navy Galapagos Expedition, 1941. Includes progress reports. The progress reports discusses the expedition chronologically, listing locations, dates, and activities, and specimens collected including seeds of the Rooseveltia palm tree. Correspondence discuss issues at Smithsonian, work with expedition participants, and destinations and distances (and time) covered. Includes correspondence of John Enos Graf, Lucile McCain, and Alexander Wetmore. Locations include the vicinity of Panam, Ecuador, and Chile including Galapagos Islands [Archipiélago de Colón], Coco Island [Isla de Coco], and Chatham Island [Isla Chatham].
