Abstract

This photograph album documents the Parish-Smithsonian Expedition to Haiti of 1930. Collection locations for this expeditions included various localities in Haiti and the northern coast of Cuba. Black-and-white photographs depict Perrygo, Lee H. Parish, his parents, and other members of the expedition collecting zoological specimens for the Smithsonian Institution U.S. National Museum, including birds, sharks, and lizards. Photographs depict scenes including members of the party collecting specimens and everyday of Haitian people and their lifestyles. Images include: Perrygo holding a young Grebe; images of Perrygo and Mrs. Parish holding an iguana by its tail; Mrs. Parish holding white-winged doves; a Haitian woman pounding coffee; Mr. Parish holding wild cat and pelican specimens; Lee H. Parish drinking water from a coconut; and Perrygo and others collecting a shark specimens in the vicinity of Port Tanamo, Cuba.
