Abstract

This volume contains multiple field books by multiple creators. Field books by A. Binion Amerson include 1) SIC #1, 1963; 2) SIC #2, 1963; and 3) Sand-Johnston, 1963. The first field book contains an itinerary; daily journal-type entries; and notes documenting pelagic bird observation, banding, and collection activities. The second field book by Amerson includes journal-type entries; and notes documenting pelagic bird observation, banding, and collection activities; and hand-drawn maps of Gin Island, Little Gin Island, Disappearing Island, Whale-skate Island, Trig Island, North Island, and bird nesting sites of Southeast Island, Pearl and Hermes Reef. The third field book by Amerson includes island observations; journal-type entries; an insect list; notes documenting bird observation, banding (514-78001 to 743-74000), marking, and collecting activities; insect observation and collection notes; and photocopies of hand-drawn maps of bird populations and vegetation on Sand Island, Johnston Atoll. Also included are bird observation checklists with species, abundance, and breeding data. Field books by Kenneth E. Amerman include 1) Sand-Johnston, Offshore Islands of Oahu, Midway and Kure, 1963; 2) Sand-Johnston, 1964; 3) Main Hawaiian Islands, 1964; 4) Leeward Islands, 1964; 5) Marshall and Gilbert Islands, 1964; and 6) Sand-Johnston, 1966. The first field book by Amerman contains notes documenting pelagic bird observation, banding, and collection activities; bird counts; and banding data (565-12101 to 753-30100); bird observation checklists with species, abundance, and breeding data; vegetation observations; and photocopies of hand-drawn maps of Sand Island and Popoia Island. The second field book by Amerman includes notes documenting pelagic bird observation, banding (565-12001 to 793-50200), and collection activities, and egg counting and marking activities; weekly surveys of Johnston, listing bird species and number observed; and journal-type entries. Also included are bird observation checklists with species, abundance, and breeding data. The third field book by Amerman includes notes documenting pelagic bird observation, banding, and collection activities. The fourth field book by Amerman includes bird counts; island topography and vegetation observations; and notes documenting pelagic bird observation, banding, and collection activities. The fifth field book by Amerman includes notes documenting pelagic bird observation, banding, and collection activities; collecting plant specimens; and journal-type accounts of travel and experiences with the local people. The sixth field book by Amerman includes notes documenting pelagic bird observation, banding, and collection activities; bird population estimates; and brood patch data.
