Abstract

The correspondence relates to the work of Waldo Schmitt during the Presidential Cruise of 1938. Correspondence covers the initial planning, specimen collecting and publication relating to collecting during the trip. Several letters refer to specimens desired or collected from specific islands, photographs taken, and overall descriptions of total collecting efforts during the cruise. Correspondents include Lucile McCain, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Alexander Wetmore. Includes a mention of collecting in Coco Island [Isla de Coco] in Costa Rica. There are also materials relating to a possible collecting trip to Alaska in the 1940's.
