Abstract

The first volume of the diary documents Waldo Schmitt's work on the Hancock Pacific-Galapagos Expedition, 1934. Dates cover December 24, 1933 - February 26, 1934. Entries are headed with date, and detail destinations, weather, participants, progress and routines during aboard ship, collecting activities and locations; specimens and wildlife observed; interactions with local inhabitants and their families; and conditions and descriptions of local residences. Locations include the vicinity of Oaxaca, Mexico; Guayaquil and La Plata, Ecuador; Gorgona Island; and Galapagos Islands [Archipiélago de Colón].
