Abstract

The photographs and postcards document Waldo Schmitt's work during Walter Rathbone Bacon Traveling Scholarship Expeditions to the East and West Coasts of South America, 1925-1927. Images are stored in envelopes, and a folder includes a list of photographs with identification numbers, dates, and descriptions include locations. Subject matter includes images of waterfront and street scenes in Guayaquil; worm colonies; fish markets; Museo Archeologica in Callao, Peru; accommodations; colleagues and their families; shorelines; lobster; Junge's Zoo in Conception, Chile; and local inhabitants fishing. Locations include the vicinity of Panama, Peru (Paita, Salaverry, Callao), Ecuador (Guayaquil, Salinas, ), Chile (Juan Fernández Islands), and Falkland Islands.
