This item is part 2 of a two part, unbound logbook for Vema 19. It contains information about Vema cruise 19 from September 01 to December 8, 1963. This item includes summary logs (including flowmeter logs), detailed logs, and bathythermograph observations. Summary of route: The cruise begins in the Indian Ocean along the east coast of Africa ending at 19° 53'S, 42° 51'E north of the Mozambique Channel and continues south through the Mozambique Channel, around the tip of Africa, and into the South Atlantic Ocean. They continue east and eventually north across the South and North Atlantic Ocean, finishing at 40° 17'N, 63° 24' W, off the coast of Rhode Island. The detailed logs are from September 1 to December 8, 1963 and include the following information: cruise number, station number, date, type, 1M net in, out, 1M meter reading, 1/2M net in, out, 1/2M meter reading, coordinates, median local time, 1M length tow, 1/2M length tow, wire angle at depth, corrected depth, corrected depth, 1M displ. vol., 1/2M displ. vol., corrected displ. vol., vol. H20 filt. 1M, vol. H20 filt. 1/2M, comments (whether or not the haul was successful), net clogged, net tears, No. bottles used, surface temp. (occasionally), and observer. The back side of the detailed log form (verso) has typed information and records depth in feet and meters, temperature, and salinity. Throughout the item are circular charts approximately 3 inches in diameter. Each of these charts has a date, time, coordinates, ship name, recorder number, (and a place to record calibration). These charts were made by Bathos, Inc.
