This item contains information about 3 difference cruises: Vema 12, Vema 14 and Vema 18. Vema 12 information is in two small folders. These folders contain the following documents: notes to Bob (Robert) Menzies about samples; 2 charts plotting stations; logs from April and May 1957 (including time, coordinates, depth, wire angle, wire out, traling, time up, and results); log activities from April 28 to May 9, 1957; typewritten notes about the cruise (including "discoveries" made); "station data of bottom trawls in the South Atlantic Ocean" (recording station, gear, date, vessel, coordinates, meters, and surface sediment), "Vema 12 cruise narrative (28 april to 15 May) -- C. S. Menzies"; bio samples from April 2 to May 14, 1957 (recording sample, date, time, pit log, BT no, salinity no, surface temperature, wind force and drift, core no., remarks, coordinates, oxygen, meter reading, pdr depth fms, hydro cast no., camera no., color plankton, and contamination if any); miscellaneous cruise notes from May 18 to June 14, and a typed "daily log" by Bruce C. Heezen on leg 11 of Vema 12 from Port-of-Spain, Trinidad to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Vema 14 trawls information is in one small folder and includes contains "Biology trawls" from January 30 to April 6, 1958 (recording sample no., date, coordinates, location, depth in fms., duration in mins., and description or remarks). Vema 18 trawls from June 5 to December 2, 1962 "from Cape Town" record the following information in a logbook: date, coordinates, sample no., time, surface temperature, time in water, depth, location (occasionally), and notes.
