Abstract

The black-and-white photographs document Waldo Schmitt's work during the Walter Rathbone Bacon Traveling Scholarship Expeditions to the East and West Coasts of South America, 1925-1927. Photographs are usually numbered, have descriptions, dates, and notes on the reverse sides. Subject matter includes accommodations, local inhabitants at work, images of local families, fishermen at work, group portraits, vessel Santos, candid images of colleagues, beach coves, and detail images of shorelines. Box 80 folder 12 is a notebook listing photographs by number, sometimes with more descriptive information. Locations in Brazil include São Sebastião , Praia Enseada [Praia Enseada da Baleia], and Parnaguá.
