Abstract

This volume contains handwritten copies Brewer's field notes borrowed from the Gray Herbarium. The notes document Brewer's botanical collection and observation efforts throughout California beginning in the vicinity of Mount Shasta and ending in Yosemite Valley from September 1862 to July 1865. Specimen no. 1359-4980 are represented in the book. Data typically include scientific name, locality, elevation, date of collection, and often contains narrative description of growing conditions. Brewer sometimes notes radius and age of specimen.
