Abstract

This is the fourth of five diaries documenting Waldo Schmitt's work during the Walter Rathbone Bacon Traveling Scholarship Expedition to the West Coast of South America, 1926-1927. It covers January 16, 1927 - March 9, 1927. Entries are headed by date and are journal style. Subject matter covers personal and professional daily activities; interactions with colleagues and acquaintances; specimen collecting; descriptions of locations visited including terrain; weather; personal observations about places visited and people met. Locations include the vicinity of Chile (Valparaiso Isla Chiloé, and Puerto Montt).
