Abstract

This field book is comprised of Bolander's observations of vegetation of California in 1866, with particular attention paid to the trees including redwoods, pinus ponderosa, oak trees, and maple trees. The notebook contains narrative descriptions and lists of scientific names. Narrative descriptions typically note height and diameter of trees and sometimes notes soil conditions. Localities begin in Santa Rosa Valley in Ventura county and end in Sonoma county. Other localities include Ukiah Valley and the Noyo River in Mendocino County. A holograph list of localities given in the notebook is also included in the item.
