This field book contains data collected by Blankinship during his botanical collection efforts in Montana in 1890. The first page of the notebook reads, "Botanical notes of J.W. Blankinship collecting on the Big Horn River near Blakely (Custer) Montana. 1890.". The item also includes a hand drawn map. The book also contains Blankinship's narrative description of the general geography of the collection locality. Blankinship writes, "All plants, unless otherwise specified, were collected on the Big Horn River at 'Ramona Ranch' seven miles above its junction with the Yellowstone in Montana during the year 1890." He also notes elevation, climate, and geological information. The item is primarily comprised of a specimen list corresponding to specimen no. 1-314. Entries contain scientific name and date of collection. Blankinship notes that he has used Coulter's Manual of Rock Mountain Botany to aid in specimen identification.
