This unbound logbook contains summaries and detailed logs from Vema cruise 17 from December 11, 1960 to September 26, 1961. The cruise starts off at 34-29N, 68-28W off coast of Carolinas. The cruise sails south west into the gulf of Mexico and then continues west into the Pacific Ocean. They sail south along the west coast of South America and around South America through the Drake Passage into the South Atlantic. The cruise continues north into the North Atlantic, and as far north as off the coast Newfoundland and Labrador, and then back south, ending north of the starting point. Summary log includes the following information: Station, type of tow, reading (revs.), length (min.), Revs/min., wind force, sea condition, vol. H20 filtered, and remarks. H20 filt. 1M, vol. H20 filt. 1/2M, comments (whether or not the haul was successful), net clogged, net tears, No. bottles used, surface temp. (occasionally), and observer. Also included is a note at the beginning of the document with the address of Dr. Walter Eckelmann and two plankton samples listed.
