Abstract

This is the Waldo Schmitt's official diary for 1911-1914. It includes data kept on the Lower California Cruise of the Albatross, 1911; Chignik (Alaska) Biological Survey, 1911; Biological Survey of San Francisco Bay, 1912- 1914; the Halibut Survey of Washington and Oregon, 1914; and the Olympia Oyster Bed Survey, 1914. Entries are dated. Survey entries are consistent in format, but format changes. In some entries are listing daily progression of activities, especially locations visited and what occurred at said locations. In others, information is made up of temperature and distance measurement for collecting sites. Entries include lists, types and quantities of specimens; descriptions of wildlife and vegetation observed by Schmitt and other participants; collecting methods and sites; weather conditions including temperature readings; and topographical material. Includes a table of contents with dates and page numbers and hand-drawn maps, some of which are very detailed with notes.
