Abstract

This unbound logbook contains summaries and a log book for Vema cruise 16 date from October 04, 1959 to September 19, 1960. During this cruise they circumnavigate the globe. Starting off the coast of New Jersey at 39-40.5N, 72-19W, they sail south through the North and South Atlantic Ocean. They move east through the Indian Ocean, into the Great Australian Bight, and then continue east entering into the South Pacific Ocean. The journey east continues through the Drake Passage into the South Atlantic Ocean, and then north along the east coast of South America into the North Atlantic. The cruise headed north into the Labrador Sea off the south coast of Greenland, then back south and west to their starting point. Summary log includes the following information: Station, type of tow, reading (revs.), length (min.), Revs/min., wind force, sea condition, vol. H20 filtered, and remarks. The detailed log includes the following information: cruise number, station number, date, type, 1M net in, out, 1M meter reading, 1/2M net in, out, 1/2M meter reading, coordinates, median local time, 1M length tow, 1/2M length tow, wire angle at depth, corrected depth, corrected depth, 1M displ. vol., 1/2M displ. vol., corrected displ. vol., vol.
