This unbound item contains summaries and a detailed log book for Vema cruise 15 date from October 18, 1958 to July 13, 1959. This item also contains a one page, typewritten "Biology Report" from San Juan to Charlotte Amilie, and a typewritten explanation of the plankton sampling program. Also included is a map that illustrates a portion of the cruise in the Pacific Ocean along the west coast of South America from Callao, Peru to Valparaiso, Chile. Summary log includes the following information: Station, type of tow, reading (revs.), length (min.), Revs/min., wind force, sea cond., vol. H20 filtered. Another summary log summarized the cruise from Valparaiso to Buenos Aires. The following information is recorded: number, date, time, amount, coordinates. Another summary log (inserted before detailed log from the date "11 XII 1958") summarizes the cruise from Panama to Lima recording information such as station number, volume, temperature, time, coordinates, and date. Detailed logs indicate that the cruise began at 39-30N, 72-20W (off the coast of New Jersey) and sailed around South America and also entered into the Caribbean Sea. The following information is recorded in these logs: cruise number, station number, date, type, 1M net in, out, 1M meter reading, 1/2M net in, out, 1/2M meter reading, coordinates, median local time, 1M length tow, 1/2M length tow, wire angle at depth, corrected depth, corrected depth, 1M displ. vol., 1/2M displ. vol., corrected displ. vol., vol. H20 filt. 1M, vol. H20 filt. 1/2M, comments (whether or not the haul was successful), net clogged, net tears, No. bottles used, surface temp. (occasionally), and observer. Several observers names appear, which indicates the name of the person logging information, including but not limited to, Thomas Dow, A. Clarke, J. A. Rivero, and Abelardo Vildoso.
