Abstract

The diary documents Caleb Kennerly's observations during the Northwest Boundary Survey, January 14 - December 27, 1859. Entries are entered into a predated notebook, and detail daily activities such as shipments of specimens, correspondence and topics, challenges in travel with inclement weather, survey participants, meetings with local in habitants, and the majority of information recorded focuses on the route and locations visited during the survey. Entries are not daily, though, when entered, tend to be detailed. Locations in Washington include Columbia River, Port Townsend, Puget Sound, and Strait of Juan de Fuca.
