Abstract

The notebook documents Caleb Kennerly's observations and collecting efforts during the Northwest Boundary Survey, January - February 1857. Entries are dated, sometimes headed with location and in a journal style. They detail daily activities, distance traveled, sailing between islands, terrain observed, activities of expedition participants, hunting and acquiring food, descriptions of vegetation, geology of the area, weather,conversations with locals about local conditions for farming, Locations in Washington include vicinity of Camp Semiahmoo and Haro Archipelago [San Juan Islands].
