Abstract

The correspondence documents Waldo Schmitt's work during the Smithsonian-Bredin Caribbean Expedition, 1956. Subject matter includes references to soil samples (also from Smithsonian-Bredin Belgian Congo Expedition, 1955), transportation arrangements, background information about possible expedition participants, expenses, Smithsonian-Bredin Belgian Congo Expedition film, official correspondence, possible evidence and discussion of firefly lamps, transport of specimens, synopsis of images for narrative of the expedition. Correspondents included Leonard Carmichael, J. Bruce Bredin, Remington Kellogg, and V.E.B. Nicholson. Locations are throughout the Caribbean including Trinidad, Antigua, and St. Croix.
