Description

This collection contains field books documenting David Griffiths collecting activities in western United States and Mexico, 1897-1923. The bulk of the materials are from 1897-1905. Locations in the United States include: California, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Montana, Wyoming, Nevada, Kansas, South Dakota, Oregon, and Washington.|Griffiths collected cacti, especially Opuntia. His notes generally consist of bound volumes that include diary-type entries, narrative observations of vegetation and agriculture, lists of plants collected, notes on plants cultivated, black-and-white photographs, sketches, and maps. The collection is comprised of 10 items, however, there are additional items in the collection that were not cataloged. These include memo books related to office or research activities.
