Description

This collection consists of two field books kept by George Gibbs while in Washington Territory (including Washington state, Idaho, and parts of Montana and Nebraska during this time). One notebook contains zoological field notes created during the Northwest Boundary Survey, 1857-1862. The other contains notes on the forest growth of Washington Territory, circa 1860. A third notebook, a journal not containing field notes, is housed in folder 1 of the same box as the two field books. This journal contains ethnological observations and Indian vocabulary from Gibb's trip to Astoria, Oregon Territory, 1850-1853.
