Description

The collection consists of Frederick Vernon Coville's field notes from botanical collecting and observation efforts from 1890-1924. Notes are contained in ten bound volumes, and loose field notes, manuscripts; and correspondence is contained in two folders. The collection includes: narrative journals and specimen lists from Coville's various botanical collecting endeavors throughout the United States including notes taken in Oregon; Death Valley, and other localities in California; Florida; North Carolina; Virginia; Maryland; Maine; Idaho; Utah; Wyoming; Alaska; Arizona; Nebraska; Washington state; and Washington, D.C. Two notebooks also contain entries from various localities in Canada.|Two maps of the route of Frederick Vernon Coville (Washington and Oregon, 1896; and Oregon, 1897) are located in the National Museum of Natural History, Department of Botany, and available online at: http://botany.si.edu/references/mapsCatalog.
