Description

The collection includes folders newspaper clippings related to the three-month Pacific-Galapagos expedition led by Captain Allan Hancock, a patron of sciences, in early 1933. The folders belonged to Fred Charles Ziesenhenne, who joined the expedition, along with scientists from the Smithsonian Institution and from the Zoological Institution of San Diego. The expedition was conducted on Hancock's cruiser Velero III. The newspaper clippings relate to the scientific aspects of the expedition and the collection of many specimens of land and marine fauna, as well as to visits to Utopians residing on the islands and to investigations on deaths and disappearances on some of the islands. The clippings cover news from before the start of the expedition to after its return, with articles in English and Spanish ranging from 1932 to 1938.
