Description

This collection is composed of two boxes of card files, comprising 20 items, separated by labeled dividers. It includes the research records conducted for the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center over three decades. While the boxes are dated “1986-2000”, the card files show dates ranging from 1970 to 2000. Various researchers recorded the nesting habits of black-throated blue warblers in the Hubbard Brooke Experimental Forest in New Hampshire, which was divided into several study plots. The observations concerned the type of plants on which the nests were built, the orientation of the nests, and the birds’ nesting behavior. Researchers took measurements on plants, nests, birds and eggs. They noted the state of each nest for every day of the nesting period and they recorded the fate of each nest, noting successes and failures as well as possible causes of failures.
