This collection include Holmes' personal and professional correspondence, including correspondence between other scientists, which was collected by Holmes in connection with his research. Materials were cataloged from Series 5 - field notes, sketches, and photographs. Series 5 primarily covers Holmes' field work in Mexico during 1895. Many of the field notes overlap with his unpublished autobiography, Random Records of a Lifetime, volumes 1-16, at the American Art and Portrait Gallery Library. Other material pertaining to Holmes may be found in the National Anthropological Archives.
