The collection is primarily comprised of William Jasper Sando's field notes from 1957 to 1983, while working for the U.S. Geological Survey. Many of the field books document field work conducted each summer in the western United States, in the vicinity of Wyoming, Montana, and Utah, as well as travel to East and West Europe. Volumes frequently specify the names of colleagues with whom he worked. The collection includes photocopies, which were not cataloged.
