Description

This collection contains 4 field books compiled by Charles Wallace Richmond, originally maintained by the Division of Birds. These are four volumes which contain original bird specimen labels from the United States National Museum (USNM). Labels are numbered 1-351759, and contain such information as field number, species, locality, sex, collector, date, and survey. Labels range from many different years and localities, some of which include the United States, Costa Rica, Guatemala, China, Canada, Greece, Peru, Chile, Hungary, and Japan. Collectors are also wide-ranging, but include Robert Ridgway, L. Belding, George Shoemaker, John Xantus, George Suckley, R. J. Pollard, Titian Ramsay Peale, Spencer Fullerton Baird, and Edward J. Brown. The books are generally organized by species.
