Description

Throughout his botanical research and collection work from 1930-1960, Allard collected lichens, grasses, mosses, and flowering plants for his work with the USDA. He also collaborated with a variety of other institutions including the Smithsonian Institution. This collection is primarily comprised of the field collection notebooks and plant identification books belonging to Harry Ardell Allard from his botanical research endeavors in the Dominican Republic and in the United States, particularly Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland. Numbered specimens in field books correspond to numbered entries in identification lists. The collection also includes a synopsis of collection numbers by localities and some narrative journal entries describing collection efforts.
