Description

This collection contains 16 field books created by Arthur Holmes Howell, originally maintained by the National Museum of Natural History, Division of Birds. Howell's field books span from 1884 to 1937, with bulk dates in the 1880s and 1890s, and include notes on birds observed and collected mainly in Long Island and Brooklyn in New York and other east coast states, but also parts of the Midwest. States include New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia, Georgia, Ohio, Montana, Maine, Texas, New Mexico, Tennessee, Illinois, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Utah, Arkansas, and Alabama.
