Description

This record describes only the nine field books within the Smithsonian Institution Archives collection "John D. Sherman, Jr., Papers, 1886-1960". Sherman, Jr., (1872-1960) was an entomologist and entomological book dealer. He lived in Mount Vernon, New York, and was a long-time member of the New York Entomological Society. Sherman sent specimens and reprints to the United States National Museum from 1893 to 1950. The field books within this collection are dated between approximately 1884 and 1960. Early notebooks relate to Sherman's trip to Washington, DC when he was still a student. Later notebooks document collecting trips in New York, Florida, and the Lake Superior region.
