Description

This collection contains 35 field books by Arthur Wilson Stelfox , 32 of which contain field research notes on insects, primarily hymenoptera, plants, and perhaps other specimens. Stelfox collected in Ireland (Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland), Scotland, and England. Other locations may also be included, as Stelfox took many trips to a variety of locations. The first 32 volumes are his Diaries of hymenoptera, other insects, plants, etc. seen or taken by A. W. Stelfox, 1921-1965. The first several volumes of field books contain brief specimen lists, but eventually become more narrative and diary like. Stelfox occasionally included sketches and maps, and very often included botanical specimens inserted between or affixed to pages, as well as photographs and correspondence. The last 3 volumes of field books contain notes on land and freshwater mollusks in Ireland, Scotland, and England.
