Description

This record describes only the field notes and field research documents within the Paul D. Hurd, Jr., Papers, 1938-1982 and undated. For non-field note materials, see the finding aid listed underneath the "Related Materials" section of this record. Hurd's field notes include records documenting his bird banding work in California, 1938-1954, and materials relating to his field work on the Arctic Institute of North America's Point Barrow, Alaska soil invertebrate project, 1952-1953. Field notes on his studies of carpenter bees and squash bees (1961-1970), including notes on the host plant cucurbita, are also included. Five journals included in this collection were not created by Hurd, but were created by colleagues working for or with Hurd. Two of these journals were created by Stevan J. Arnold. Journals created by Richard E. Sage, Gorton E. Linsey, and Paul C. Hutchinson are also included.
