Biographical History

Tom Simkin was a a geologist and curator at the Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of Natural History (NMNH). In 1967 He began his career with the Institution at the Smithsonian Oceanographic Sorting Center, in 1972 became a curator of petrology and volcanology. In 2003 he became a senior geologist and volcanologist in the department of Mineral Sciences. Simkin passed away in Baltimore, Maryland on June 10, 2009.
