Biographical History

Stanley G. Jewett was a naturalist with a broad range of interests in natural history, including ornithology. He was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, on February 5, 1885. Jewett spent of the majority of his life in the Pacific Northwest, where he also did the majority of his scientific work. He spent several seasons working for the US Biological Survey in Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, and North Dakota, part of the time with William L. Finley, the Oregon State Game Director. Though the majority of his time was spent in the northwest United States, he took part in a trip to Venezuela and Columbia with Dr. Wilfred H. Osgood of the Field Museum in Chicago. He later became flyway biologist for the Fish and Wildlife Service. In retirement he continued to pursue natural history collecting. Jewett passed away in Portland, Oregon, on October 12, 1955.
