Biographical History

Stephen F. Smith was formally trained as a zoologist, but worked the majority of his career as a botanist. Smith received his Bachelors degree in Zoology from the University of Michigan in 1970 and doctorate in zoology from the University of California at Berkeley in 1976. Smith worked in the Department of Botany at the National Museum of Natural History from 1980 until 2012. Stephen Smith was the son of botanist Lyman B. Smith.
