Biographical History

E. Raymond Hall was born on May 11, 1902, in Imes, Kansas. He was married Mary Frances Harkey. Hall earned his B.A. from the University of Kansas (1924), M.A. (1925) and Ph.D. (1928) from University of California at Berkeley. While at Berkeley he studied under naturalist Joseph Grinnell. He served as Curator of Mammals at Berkeley from 1927-1944 and was acting Director of the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology from 1938-1944. While at Berkeley he collected and studied the fauna of Nevada. In 1944, he returned to Kansas and became Chairman of the Department of Zoology at University of Kansas and Director of the Museum of Natural History, until his retirement in 1967. He was also director of the State Biological Survey (1946-1967). Hall passed away on April 2, 1986.
