Biographical History

Marcus Ward Lyon, Jr., (1875-1942) was born on February 5, 1875, in Arsenal, Illinois. He attended Brown University earning a Ph.B., and George Washington University where he earned his M.S. and Ph.D. He worked at the United States National Museum from 1900 to 1912, at one point as an assistant curator in the Division of Mammals. He taught at several area institutions in the fields of zoology, bacteriology, parasitology, and pathology. During World War I, he worked as a pathologist at the Walter Reed General Hospital, and in 1919 he was appointed to be a major in the Medical Reserve Corps. He died in 1942.
