Biographical History

James T. Jardine (1881-1954) was born in Idaho in 1881. He was an agricultural scientist known for his work with the Department of Agriculture, and studied range control and over-grazing. Jardine graduated Utah Agricultural College in 1905 and studied English at the University of Chicago. He was appointed as a special agent for the Oregon State Forest Service and was promoted within a year to the position of deputy forest supervisor of the Wallowa National Forest in eastern Oregon. Jardine authored the book, Range Management on the National Forests, in 1919. Jardine worked on Oregon's agricultural Experiment Station in Corvallis from 1920-1931, and then as chief of the Office of Experiment Stations, USDA, from 1931 until his retirement in 1946. He died on October 24, 1954.
