PrintEarle Gorton Linsley was born on May 1, 1910, in Oakland, California. He developed an interest in insects during childhood. He became an authority on the systematics of Cerambycidae (longhorned beetles). Linsley earned a B.S. (1932), M.S. (1933), and Ph.D. (1938) degrees in entomology; in 1939 at University of California, Berkeley. He later became a faculty member of UC, Berkeley and Junior Entomologist at the Experiment Station. Rapidly advancing through the ranks he became Professor and Entomologist in 1953. He eventually became Chair of the Department of Entomology and Parasitology and Associate Director of the Experiment Station until 1972. He retired in 1974. Linsley married Juanita Murdoch in 1935. He passed away on March 8, 2000.
